Blog for Friday 17th October 2025

ree

I only woke up at just before six o’clock this morning – lazy wench! You would honestly think I was on holiday …

Oh, but I am!

I had my Quiet Time, uploaded my blog a little alter than usual but I wrote it.

I heard Robert go out for a surf with his friends then Mich’ came into my room with a mug of steaming hot coffee. Wonderful!

We got ready - showered, dressed and grabbed the things we would need in our holiday home for the week. We debated as you when we should do the grocery shopping and decided that we would get driving and find the shops near to where we would be staying in Fishermen’s Bay.

First, we stopped at some McDonald’s Drive Through in Gosford for a Kiddies ‘burger and hot coffee takeaway each for our breakfast. That was perfect and we hit the road happy to be heading towards our holiday destination at last.

As we were almost at the address we were aiming for, we heard the sirens of a fire truck, ambulance or police behind us and so Mich’ drew to the side of the road as a police car whizzed by us going at great speed. We followed it closely as it was heading in the same direction as we were. But then at the top of the road that the police car turned down in we could see people everywhere with their phones out, videoing something … and then we saw it.

A young guy came up to us to explain what had happened. Some man – high on something presumably, had knocked down to the ground those huge electricity poles and the road was covered with live wires, and further on down the car in question had driven into some poor person’s property, taking the fence line, garden and whatever was in its way out. Then the person fled the scene!

My goodness gracious what a happening!

We found our accommodation and decided to nip off to the shops – and we found a fantastic shopping centre with absolutely everything we would or could need, so we went there. We did our grocery shopping and returned to our ‘new home’ for the week, happy that we had purchased what we needed.

There we carried everything inside and unpacked our suitcases and by then had worked up a thirst, so decided to have a coffee and biscuits, but … there was no electricity!

Rats! That horrific accident up the road had taken out a whole block – apparently 500 places were without electricity like us. Mich’ checked to see when the electricity would come on again and they said 10pm! G-r-e-a-t!

Here are a few photos of our home for the week ...

So, for supper we had chicken and salad sandwiches and sat outside as the sun disappeared.

We had checked earlier for candles, and we found only one and the lighter did not work anyway! But as it got darker and we

got more desperate, I found two torches which were an absolute boon. At least we could get around without falling over things in an unfamiliar home.

Mich’ went off to sleep at about eight

o’clock and I tried to but battled to do so. I think it was all the excitement of getting here and I was still far too wired to slide into the Land of Nod then.

At about twenty to ten the lights came on! Hallelujah!

I went around turning the lights off that we had put on earlier when we were waiting for the electricity to come on, and I also managed to put on Mich’s room’s fan for her as it was so hot and muggy. Well. Mich’ actually did it as I did not know how to work the fan controls!  I found my room’s fan control and did the same for my room. Bliss.

Just before we went to bed there was a monstrous storm at sea which swept over us a little later. At one stage it sounded as if the odd bit of hail was thudding down, but thankfully that soon stopped. The sky was ablaze with streaks of lightning and the thunder

rolled and roared overhead. It was a magnificent show of the power of nature being displayed for us.

Wow! What an ending to our first day here!

What lesson did I learn today? How things can change in a split second.

What am I grateful for today? That the electricity eventually came on tonight.

My saying for today is …
