Blog for Monday 20th October 2025

My day began when my alarm on my i-phone began her ditty at four o'clock this morning. It was not an unpleasant sound as I had gone to sleep fairly early last night and had had a good night sleep, so I was well rested.

When Mich' was up we watched another session on the Book of Daniel, had some breakfast and then put our swimmers ('cozzies' in South African lingo) and walked down to the beach to the left of our accommodation.

We had the beach to ourselves!

Wonderful! We were the only ones at that stretch of the beach - a small, shallow bay,

We found a few swimming pools and puddles in the rocks to get ourselves wet in. Yikes! The water was r-e-a-l-l-y cold, but we were determined to get wet. Mich' said the rules were: we had to get our shoulders wet and go under water for at least a few minutes, then to get our hair wet too, to qualify as 'having got wet'! With much squealing and yapping on I eventually - after Mich' had already got wet - got wet myself. It is always such a nice feeling afterwards but - oh, the agony and ecstasy of getting wet!

Another family of three - Mum, Dad and toddler - came down to the beach as we were leaving. Mich' picked up a plastic starfish mould that had been washed up onto the beach, which I took to give to the mother of the little girl on the beach with us. The little girl was delighted and ran off to show her dad.

We walked home in the warm sunshine and once back home, we had a cup of tea and some biscuits before continuing watching the series on Netflix, but by agreement we decided that it was a waste of time and neither of us knew what was going on really! So, instead Mich' went upstairs to have a shower and lie down to read her book for a bit, and I did some more smocking and worked on my laptop before showering and getting dressed.

I am so happy as I have downloaded some podcasts, so I have plenty to listen to as I smock. Yahee! This laid-back world for this week away is simply wonderful and I am so enjoying every moment of it!

At about three o'clock we went off to the shops hoping to check out the Vinnies (secondhand shop,) but it was closed for today unfortunately, so we just went to the Spar shop to get a few necessary groceries like milk and bread.

On returning home we played three games of Bananagram before settling down to watch a scary movie. (Which is easier to watch when it is still light outside!)

Then while we chomped on our supper we watched 'The Golden Bachelor' on Channel 9 - but we are not sure whether it will be worth watching yet.

At half past nine we went both went upstairs and to our respective bedrooms to turn in for the night - to read our books or listen to a podcast or whatever before dropping off to sleep.

We had enjoyed another lovely day of relaxation again today. I think I am now addicted to this style of life!

What lesson did I learn today? To sometimes push myself to do what I do not really want to do, like get wet in freezing cold water - and yet which later I enjoyed!

What am I grateful for today? A lovely time on the beach with Mich'

My saying for today is ...
