(That applies to rabbit pie too!)
Another late rising for me this morning as I had a terrible night’s sleep last night. You remember I mentioned that the other day when I was hanging out the washing that a bull ant bit me – I thought twice but it was actually four times – the wretched insect! W-e-l-l, last night it began to itch and the more I scratched my toe the worse it got, and my arms, having been sunburnt also reacted, and I almost tore them off my body with scratching. I now am the not-so-proud owner of badly scratched and crimson lined arms!
Dearie me!
Paddy and Tamryn were up early again, and Matt’ had to be up early too – I had to laugh as he gave a new definition to ‘The Walking Dead; as he moved around still asleep really! But Matt’ had to be up and looking bright eyed and bushy tailed as Peter was arriving to work with him on Tamryn’s container home!
Soon Paddy and Tamryn were hard at work again – wetting - grinding – and sweeping the floor in the main shed and Ken got up a little later as he was off to finish spreading the fertilizer in the Large River Camp.
At about eleven o’clock both Paddy and Tamryn approached me in a begging position, with mournful puppy dog faces to ask me if I would drive into Bunnings to get some items for them and I said that I would as there was absolutley no way I could say "No!"
Tamryn drove me across the river to my car, but on our way down the laneway we espied a huge red belly black snake to the right of us as it slithered into the longer grass. Ugh! It gave Tamryn and I the grillies and ab-dabs all at once! Poor Tamryn on her way back home she could not remember exactly where she saw said snake, so she drove like a mad woman and did not even stop too shut the gate on her hurried escape! Paddy did that later!
Tamryn had taken photos of what they wanted me to buy, so I could see which isle and bay they were in – easy-peasy! But as I was looking for the Ryobi spraying container an elderly gentleman – a Bunnings employee, about my age asked me what I was looking for and when I explained that I was buying something for my son and showed him the photo he took me straight to it. He kindly loaded it for me on my trolley and I thanked him for his kindness. As he began to walk away he turned, walked back to me and asked, “You did say you were buying that for your son, didn’t you?” When I replied, “Yes, that’s right!” He continued, “Well, I think I should mention that I am up for adoption!” I burst out laughing – one of my really loud guffaws and told him that he had made my day as he walked away chortling!
Back at home - luckily for me, in the morning I had begun to prepare fillings for sandwiches - because little did I know that I would only arrive back home just after lunchtime to make the sandwiches! I had boiled six eggs and mashed them with seasoning and mayonnaise and put the bowl of egg in the fridge, and I had cold roast chicken to slice. So, when I got back home at a quarter past one there were seven people to make sandwiches for! – Ken, Paddy, Tamryn, Matt’, Peter, and another Peter - a friend who had come to pay us a visit and myself! I quickly got to work and Ken and Peter (our visitor) took the sandwiches up to Peter and Matt’ at the container for me.
Matt’ and Peter have done a sterling job on the container and there is only one more window to go in. The progress is amazing and Tamryn must be over the moon with excitement!
In the afternoon I prepared a Mr. McGregor’s Rabbit Pie! I have not made rabbit pie in over fifty years, so I tried this recipe using puff pastry instead of short pastry (because that is what I had on hand). Tamryn only ate the mashed potato as the very thought of consuming a bunny rabbit was too much for her! The rest of us chomped on merrily!
I was just so tired I did not wait up with Paddy, Tamryn and Matt’ who were finishing off the grinding tonight. My goodness gracious golly gee, but they had done a magnificent job so far.
Paddy and Tamryn were sleeping on the two beds in Tamryn’s tent tonight, and Matt’ was sleeping on a mattress on the floor in Tamryn’s container! But I was fast asleep long before they were.
Need I add that everything, but everything is covered with a concrete fine powder. Everything! Nothing has escaped!
What lesson did I learn today? To be flexible in life and to help when and where I can!
What am I grateful for today? All this incredibly hard work that Paddy, Tamryn and Matt’ are doing for us.
My saying for today is …
