Yahee! I was up early this morning, so maybe I am not slowing down just yet, as I suspected the other day! (I am forever and always the optimist!)
The household slowly woke up and shrugged off the remains of sleep to step into the new day ahead.
Little did I know then that seven people would be arriving for morning tea (Ken had not told me about that!) and there I was rushing around like a chook minus her top knot, trying to chop up the Rocky Road I made yesterday for the Church’s ’Sausage Sizzle’ evening; tonight. I had plates, pans, bowls and everything everywhere - total chaos reigned supreme. Plus, the Rocky Road was determined NOT to be cut up!
Thankfully Trev’ had bought two lovely fruit cakes with them, so we had that with our morning tea. And later, Jason brought in masses of chips, cheese blocks, carbonosi and biscuits for everyone to share.
While they went out fetching the guys across the river, I quickly dived into the shower and threw clothes on in the general direction of my body and came out squeaky clean, but still hot and bothered! Shoo! It was such a humid day!
Tamryn was busy up in my studio writing an exam online as an application to do her Master’s Degree in Psychology, and she seemed quite relaxed about it. She will get the results of that exam in the morning tomorrow.
Ross, one of Ken’s friends that came out to the farm this morning, brought with him a huge container of knives that he has collected over the years. My goodness gracious some of them were beautiful. They were mostly pocked knives of various makes, sizes, colors and so on, but it really is sad that he has to now get rid of this collection. He is a very interesting man to talk to about his collection and his knowledge about knives is fascinating.
While we sat and chatted inside sipping tea, admiring plus sorting through the knife collect, and chomping cake, Paddy and Tamryn came in to say “Hi!” and then they disappeared for Paddy to help Tamryn start to build a large table for her New Year’s Eve party here on the farm in the Pteridium Camp.
The young ones – that is Jason’s sons and their girlfriends - sat outside on the benches and chatted out there while drinking water or cokes.
Then it was time for everyone to go – Jason took his Dad and Ross back across the river to their vehicle, and then he returned to pick up his two sons plus their girlfriends, as they are all camping here for the weekend.
I have a horrible feeling that maybe Ken asked his two friends here for lunch, but there was no way I could create something then. I still had to finish cutting up the Rocky Road for tonight and then set out lunch for Paddy and Tamryn. I certainly did not have enough lunch for elven of us!
Paddy and Tamryn were still out working, Ken was sleeping - having his normal siesta – and I warned him that I would wake him at three o’clock as we had to be in Wauchope at 4.45pm to set up for the ’Sausage Sizzle’. He was as good as gold and got up at three!
I had another shower just because it was so humid and because I could! I got together the things I needed to take with us for tonight’s evening and then I put on a pasta dish to bake for Paddy and Tamryn’s supper, I made them a salad to go with the pasta meal. I also left them a bowl of my Rocky Road, in case they felt like something sweet after supper!
I also put the dishwasher on as there were plates and cups and mugs galore needing attention.
I am praying that the Rocky Rock does not melt on our way into Wauchope as it is still so humid, and I cannot see where my cooler bag is – probably still up in the container from when I sent it up for Matt’ and Peter’s lunch the other day!
Nah! I found it! Yahee!
I am delighted to inform you that the Rocky Road did not melt on our trip into Wauchope and so many people said that they had enjoyed it immensely. Good!
It was such a pity that our ‘Sausage Sizzle’ in the park had to be cancelled, but we had it in the hall anyway. It would have been such fun to have had it in the park, but that can happen next time. The rain would have washed us all away had we gone ahead.
It was a lovely evening with quite a few visitors, and for us women, it was far, far easier doing it this way than setting out a full supper as we have done in the past. The ‘Sausage Sizzle’ is the way to go, that is for sure!
Ken and I got home at about half past eight I think, so it was not a late evening, and we timed our arrival home well as the rain let up as we got here!
What lesson did I learn today? Not to panic when a car full of people arrive on the farm and drive up to the top shed!
What am I grateful for today? A successful ‘Sausage Sizzle’ evening.
My saying for today is …
