Blog for Saturday 8th March 2025

Writer: Gail MorganGail Morgan

I was up and out of bed long before four o’clock this morning.

Why? Because I vaguely remembered waking up some time during the night remembering that I had not taken out my hearing aids. I thought I had taken them off and put them in the charging unit, but … I obviously just dreamt that, as they were NOT in the charger this morning! G-r-e-a-t!

So, there I was in the pitch hell dark, scrabbling around on the floor trying to feel if they had fallen on the floor. I eventually found one of them under the bed with the dust bunnies, but in the dark, I could not find the other one.  My dread was that Raafie found it and chewed it! Oh, heaven forbid! I had to wait until Ken and Raafie were both up and out of bed o find out. The nerves were at twanging point by then. What if I lost it then I would never ever hear Ken say, “I am sorry … I was wrong!” Ha! Ha!

When Ken woke up, we scoured the bed and pulled it right out so I could sweep under it, around it, and just everywhere. Nothing! Then I thought if Ken could lift the mattress, it could have slipped down the side - although I had already run my fingers along the side and come up with nothing.

Yes! Yes! Yes! There the dear little instrument was, tucked right on the side of the bed so snuggly I would not have felt it when I ran my fingers along the inside of the wooden frame. Needless to say, I was absolutely delighted to have found it and will have to watch that I do not go to sleep with the hearing aids still in my ears!

I had fed Shamara earlier and had gone up to my studio to have my Quiet Time, do my Bible study and also choose a proverb for the day.

This is the photo I have chosen for today - one of the many baby jerseys I recently knitted (and still have many more to knit.) This one is in a light beige double knit wool, and so nice and soft. I sewed on a wooden button the other day, now I need to wash it and put it away.

This is another photo I came across yesterday of Paddy and his good friend Pete’ off on the river to christen Paddy’s new canoe. It was still winter, and the water was icy cold and just after I took this photo, they were both tipped out and into the icy H2O at the first rapids!

I have had to put the CD’s away or else I would still be re-living all those wonderful memories. I will save that for another day when I have everything sorted out here and put away. Right now, I have too much to do.

Hah! Saying that, this afternoon I decided to take a brief beak from this constant tidying. I looked up one of the many online courses I have - this one was on Watercolor Portraits. I had great fun looking up and choosing a photo portrait that I will eventually try to paint. I still need to choose some trees, plants, flowers and animals before I can start. Should be great fun when I get to it again.

I think when Mich’ and I go away - a gift of special spoiling from her for my 80th - a week on the coast in a truly beautiful home - we can both have a bash at doing some of my art courses together for fun.

At about five I went out to see how much rain we had had so far - and we had had 19mm which was more than I had expected. It looks as if we will miss most of the rain, which is fine by us as we have had enough for the moment.

Tonight, for our supper we are having a very light one - scrambled egg with cheese on mashed avocadoes, toast, bacon and fried tomatoes.

Oh rats! I have put my little notebook with all my passwords in it in such a safe place, I cannot find it! This is what happens just when I think I am getting so organized - I find the milk in the tumble drier, the washing in the fridge and so on! Scary stuff!

What lesson did I learn today? To just enjoy the day no matter what.

What am I grateful for today? Not too much rain.

My saying for today …
