Life …

"You only live one, but if you do it right, once is enough."

Mae West

I was up really late for me this   morning – I only got out of bed just before half past five! But what with the heat, late nights, reading and ironing … well, those my excuses anyway for getting up late!

I fed Shamara then tip toed up to my studio to have my Quiet Time and I also remembered to take the gifts for our “adopted Australian Grandchildren” with us to church!

It was the normal battle of wills to get Ken moving and out of bed, showered, dressed and to leave the farm and to get to church in time.

Well, this morning we managed to squeak into church as it begun! Whew!

Paddy had suggested to Ken to take me to lunch after church as Ken had got a substantial amount of money for all the empty returned cans yesterday. So, after church us two old dears headed to the Wauchope Country Club for lunch together. There we saw two people from church – a Dad and daughter, and also some friends of neighbors of ours too.

Ken and I found a quiet corner in the room off the main dining room where we could sit together and do some of the cryptic crosswords on my phone.

Ken was a little lost without his phone today, but when he discovered that he had left it at home it was far too late to turn around and get it, so he had to go without it for half the day! Shock horror! But he survived anyway!

Ken and I enjoyed our lunch – Ken had flathead and chips and I had the roast of the day  -pork with crackling. All very yummy.

On our way home we stopped to get fuel in my car and then again at the Timbertown IGA, where I bumped not Noel and Sandra - one of the couples from our Bible Study Group and in whose home we meet most weeks. They were on their way home after getting back from South Australia, where they have been over the Christmas season with family. It was good to see them again back safe and sound.

When we got home, Paddy had kindly left the ute’ for us to be able to cross the river, so we stopped at the bottom shed to see how he was going. My goodness gracious me! Jiminy Joseph! He and Tamryn have worked hard – and I mean really hard while we were out. Tamryn had labelled all the different containers of nails, screws, bolts et cetera and put them neatly in rows on shelving, making it so nice and neat for Ken. Paddy had loaded all the scrap metal, old wire, and general riff raff rubbish on the back of the ute’ to be taken to the scrap metal blokes next week sometime.  Paddy has made huge inroads into tidying up the bottom shed and the grounds around it and it is beginning to show big time. Marvelous!

We got back to the farm at three o’clock and Tamryn had just gone up to the top shed to have a snap snooze before she drove back home to the Central Coast later. Then she and Matt’ will be back on the farm this coming Tuesday.

Today has been another really hot day so that stiff breeze blowing has been a God send. I think it prevented us all from melting into blobs!

At about half past four Paddy came back up to the top shed, looking absolutely whacked, so he went for a nice shower to remove all the dirt, dust and grime and to be able to feel human once more. I had offered him something to eat but in this heat none of us are really that hungry.

I made myself a ginger beer soda stream icy cold drink, which was just what I needed. It slid down my gullet clapping hands! Ah! Beautiful.

At a quarter to five Tamryn left the farm, and after we had said our “Good byes!”, I watched as Paddy drove her across in the farm ute loaded with scrap  metal, with her little suitcase  perched on top of that. I was delighted t see that it was still on when they reached the other side of the river! Wow! A suitcase with such suction!

I sat outside in the coolth of the now approaching evening, and Paddy joined me a little later as we waited for Ken to return from his evening ride around the farm checking the cattle.

What lesson did I learn today? To appreciate all the work our children and grandchildren do for us. They really do so much for us!

What am  I grateful  for today?  All the work Paddy and Tamryn have done here.

My saying for today is …
