I bounced out of bed and into the new day, ready to live in it to the very edges - from top to bottom - height, width and breadth!
I went up to my studio after feeding Shamara to have my Quiet Time.
When it was light enough for me to see outside, I could see how the mist (or fog as Australians call it) was lying in the valleys between the trees. To me it looked as if the clouds were tired and had decided to drop down to earth to take a rest before rising and moving on!
After my Quiet Time I went downstairs again and continued my shuffling, filing, and discarding of papers. Then I put all the files back into the top drawer of the large cupboard. Oh, such a nice feeling to see everything neat and orderly.
Then I made myself a mug of coffee and a rusk. Rats! While I was eating my rusk I snapped one of my bottom teeth right off - and not even on the hard rusk, but on the soggy part that I had dunked into my coffee. G-r-e-a--t! Now I look like a homeless person with that gap in my teeth! All I need to finish the look now is a bottle wrapped in a brown paper packet! Marvelous! There goes any scrap of my pride down the gurgler!
I have absolutely no idea when we will be able to get off the farm so I cannot make a dentist appointment just yet. More patience needed.
I just hope I do not suffer from toothache that’s all because there is absolutely nothing I could do about it if I did.
I got dressed for the day and continued my sorting-throwing-out-papers exercise in the main shed area. I think I must get Ken to help me make space in the shed for the two large wooden boxes to be brought in from outside where they still are. He will have to use the tractor to do that, I think. I am concerned what with all this rain, I am sure there was no ground sheet or wooden beams put under those wooden boxes, so whatever is in them - (and I think most of my calligraphy books are) - will be very wet or damp or ruined.
Well, I also went through the folders of recipes I want to try and I managed to whittle that pile down seriously. I have now filed those recipes, and each week will try some some of them, until I have tried them all!
Today has been another day of brilliant sunshine and the birds and the bees were happily humming their little tunes, with the guinea fowl and keets adding to the chorus. In the background there was still the odd croak from a frog or chirrup from a cricket or two, to add depth to the song. It was just a perfect day to be alive and breathing in.
I am so sad that I will miss out on visiting my friend Kat for her birthday, but there is absolutely no way we can get off the farm as the river is still far too high. So my trip with Karen to Bingara is out - so sad. It also looks as if sections of the river crossing has been gouged out too, which means that will have to be repaired too before we will be able to cross the river easily again.
One really good thing as a result of this flood is that we are slowly eating our way through what was in the deep freeze. Always a good thing to be doing!
So, tonight we are having chicken livers peri-peri on fluffy white rice. Our fresh veggies are looking a little on the limp side now, but I still have lots of frozen veggies, so will use those and forget about fresh salads.
I have ironing that needs to be done - so hopefully I will be inspired enough to do that late this afternoon. And I am hoping Ken will be inspired to mow the grass as it is edging up to the knees now! Not fun walking out to the washing line when some reptile could be lying in wait for me!
Neither happened!
What lesson did I learn today? To keep on going.
What am I grateful for today? A truly beautiful day!
My saying for today is …
