Blog for Thursday 6th March 2025

Writer: Gail MorganGail Morgan

I woke up and there was the soft sound of rain falling again - not hard or pelting down, but rather just drifting down gently.

A new day of wetness. Rain. Puddles. Mud. And no visitors.

I had my Quiet Time, did my Bible Studying and chose my proverb for the day.

Oh dear, there is more ironing to be done, so best I set my head and heart towards achieving that little task today. I have dangled the carrot before my eyes of - ‘I can listen to my audio book as a reward whilst I do the ironing’.  That seems to work every time! (Yes, I must be a little slow to be so easily conned, I know!)

I also want to do more in the main shed area, but I need Ken to help me move things around in order to get to stuff.

Okay no more shilly-shallying, I am off to do the ironing!

Yahee! All my ironing done and dusted plus I got to listen to a LOT of my audio book too! In fact, I finished it.

When I went outside to read the rain gauge, I could hear the river roaring and see the frothy white waves on it from up here.

No wonder! We had 40mm of rain overnight and the showers kept on coming! We will definitely be here on the farm for a few days, unable to get off, but that is fine with me as I actually enjoy the isolation. Plus, I get a lot done without any interruptions!

I sorted out two large containers of my files - notes I have taken over the years but will keep as I often use them again. That was a positive for me today to have done that. Good!

This afternoon I hauled out a plastic container full to the top with CD’s and DVD’s. As my laptop no longer plays them, I bought an external DVD/CD player recently and this afternoon I thought I would begin going through all these CD’s. I am sure to find some lovely photos of when we first arrived here on the farm.

Look at this photo of Shamara when she was a little kitten. Now that is pure cuteness right there! You get an idea of how small she was by her size against the size of my hand, and my hands are small.

My little kitten Shamara. Cuteness wrapped in fur.

Shamara is almost seventeen years old now and ageing far too quickly for my liking.

At just before four o’clock the heavens opened, and the rain came down really hard. For most of the day up until then, we had the odd heavy shower but only for a short while. This rain was hard, heavy and did not let up at all. I can see why the weathermen predicted up to 80mm  for our area today!

Even with all this rain today we have had the odd splashes of sunshine painting the landscape happy.

This afternoon I pulled undone the edging of the shawl I am busy with as I was not happy - I spotted a mistake and so it all had to come undone. Yes, it will demand a lot of patience to get back to where I was, but I just knew the mistake would irritate me forever if I did not correct it!

After five o’clock I drove down to the river to see if it really was in flood. R-e-a-l-l-y! As if I could doubt! Then I had to reverse the ute’ all the way back up the laneway as there was no where to turn beyond the gate as the river was there already. Talk about heavy concentration, crick in neck, tongue waggling, eyeballs swiveled to watch behind and all that!

Tonight, I made us fish and chips for our supper, and I so enjoyed mine. I used the Barramundi I had in the freezer and my little chip fryer to make the chips, as it does a wonderful job of making hot, crispy chips.

I was not out of bed long as I had a new audio book to begin, and I was tired.

What lesson did I learn today? If something is worth doing, it is worth doing well. hence the unpicking of the shawl edging!

What am I grateful for today? The isolation caused by the river in flood.

My saying for today is …
