Blog for Wednesday 5th March 2025

I woke up to the soft shushing sound of rain on our tin roof. Yep! We would be going nowhere today.

This rain arriving so soon after the recent flood will cause the river to rise very quickly, and as we cannot guess how much rain has fallen up river from us, the river could rise quicker than we estimate. So, it is far safer to stay on the farm.

We did so.

We had 20mm of rain overnight and are expecting a lot more today, which means I will have to cancel going to school tomorrow too.

Floods happen, and we have not had a flood for some time now, so we cannot grumble over this one.

Today I decided could be a rainy-day-do-what-you-want-to sort of day for me! I began with my normal start to the day - my Quiet Time, Bible Study and a proverb for the day. Then I pulled out several of my files in the cupboards in my studio and sorted through them. I have taken so many notes of the years and filed them - notes I do not want to lose as my memory is a little vague and I need to read and re-read notes I have written to jolt my stuttering and shuddering memory into remembering!

Next, I moved those files downstairs to a container that will be put on the shelving in the main shed area when I can get to that section of shelving. I still have much to sort out and move in order to get access to some areas of shelving.

Meanwhile, all day showers drifted over us or pelted down hard. Yes, I think it was a wise decision to remain at home today. By ten o’clock (I take the rain readings from 9am to 9am each day) we had had another 13mm or rain and it looks as if that will be happening off and on all day.

At lunch time today the school phoned me to say that school would be cancelled for the next two days because of the weather and for the safety of the children. So, I will not be teaching tomorrow.

What crazy weather - one minute it is pouring cats and dogs, then clear skies and brilliant sunshine spills over everything outside, then again the sky grows dark and more rain falls! I think we missed a lot of the rain predicted for our area though as it seemed to slide south of us and move inland. By six o’clock we had only had 16mm of rain, but maybe we will get more tonight.

This afternoon I did some of the crocheted cotton shawl that I need to finish as I listened o my audio book. Oh! Such decadence Gail Morgan! But oh-so enjoyable!

Tonight, we are having potato and meat pies with butternut and peas for our supper. Nice warm comfort food on a rainy night.

A little embroidery of mine I am trying to finish.

This is my photo for today. I carry this little embroidery around in my handbag and if or when I have a spare moment I do a couple of stitches. It  may take a long time to complete these embroideries, but at least I am attempting to do so and it means there are no wasted moments in my life!

What lesson did I learn today? To enjoy a change of plans.

What am I grateful for today? A quiet day at home.

My saying for today is …

Faith and fear

demand you

believe in

something you

cannot see.

You

choose.
