Blog for Monday 14th September 2026

It is a very Happy-Happy Birthday to one of my little sisters. Dee is only seven years younger than me and Sheelagh is nine years younger, but … today it is Dee’s special day. I phoned her this morning to check on what she was up to for her special day, and she had a full day ahead of being spoilt, so we arranged for us to get together on another day.
This morning although I woke up at four o’clock, I debated on whether I should arise from our bed or not – the debate did not last for long, and I snuggled down under the duvet and slept on.
I think I had a restless night sleep last night as my hip was giving me hell and every turn told a sad story, so maybe that was why I was still feeling so tired when I woke up at four this morning.
I only got up at half past five and staggered – or rather limped through to the kitchen to make myself a mug of coffee before settling down to have my Quiet Time, upload my blog and check my emails.
I am so happy that I waited until this morning to read the “Reflections” that Hester had written for her website – they absolutely blew me away and the one about the hyena really got to me. It is so good. The other one pulled on my heart strings for Hester – just beautiful.
I am keeping the next few chapters of Hester’s book to read tonight – I am delaying the pleasure as I know that she is so busy at the moment and will not have time to continue writing that book. So, I will spread my pleasure out a bit!
My one little sister – Sheelagh =- is also writing a book – hers is a book for children. Sheelagh having been a teacher all her life, a counsellor, a vice-head principal and I think she also did a stint as headmistress at a really large Primary School in Durban North, South Africa so she is well tuned to what children enjoy and need to read.
Sheelagh sent me the first three chapters of her children’s book and they are really good. Now she needs to get an illustrator – or find out what she likes for the little rabbit characters she is busy creating.
Today I have spent washing loads and loads of washing, hanging it out to dry and then in the late afternoon bringing it all back inside for me to iron tomorrow some time.
Ken has spent the day resting or on his phone. At about midday Ken got up and showered and got himself ready as he had his appointment with the eye specialist to check on his last eye op.
The eye specialist, Ji Li, said that Ken could go to Specsavers in about a week to check whether he needs reading glasses – just for close up work. While Ken was at his appointment, I sat in the car and waited for Ken and I wondered why on earth he was taking so long – he was gone for well over an hour, but he also popped in the Hearing Australia office as he is still not happy with his hearing aids.
From there we headed off to Chemist Warehouse as Ken needed prescriptions and I also asked him to get me some Deep Heat – and I am hoping that will give me some relief, plus he also bought me some Cramp Eeze as I often wake up with terrible leg cramps during the night – which ain’t no fun!
Shucks! Sounds like I am unravelling!
On our way back home, we stopped at the Regional Gallery, which is right near us, for a coffee – and we both had a Vanilla slice! Delicious!
It was nice to see the Regional Gallery open again after it had to close for several months. Something went bang in the kitchen, and they had to renovate the whole thing. Maybe gas or something? I think I will make an effort to stroll around the art gallery again there as they change it fairly frequently, and it is nice to see the local artists display their work.
Once home, I unpacked and put away all the groceries and then brought in the dried washing.
I wrote some of my blog, took a Paracetamol tablet for the pain in my hip and then decided to lie down and watch TV. To sit causes the problem; to lie down makes the pain less obvious. Uh, I am not good at this being so sore. Hopefully by tomorrow it will be a lot better.
We have Bible Study Group in the morning – and I am looking forward to that as is Ken – it will be nice to be back in the group again, and I have asked another of my friends to join our group and she is going to be there tomorrow. Yahee!
For our supper tonight I will grill a steak, serve it with baby potatoes slathered in cream cheese, and with a tossed salad.
What lesson did I learn today? To take baby steps at getting things organized here at home.
What am I grateful for today? That I got a lot of the washing done.
My saying for today is …
