Blog for Saturday 12th September 2026
I was up and out of bed on four o’clock, tip toeing out into the new day because Tamryn and Matt’ were still fast asleep in the main area of the shed. (Ken sleeps with the pillow over his head so he is not disturbed by anything.) Shame, they worked so hard on Tamryn’s container home yesterday that they were absolutely finished last night.
This morning I had my Quiet Time, uploaded my blog and checked emails with a large blanket wrapped around me to ward off any thoughts of being cold.
Once Tamryn and Matt’ woke up they were soon dressed and off up the hill to continue their hard work on the container. Today they finished all the insulation and managed to put up the first plaster board. I think it looks lovely and they have done such a good job so far.
Now, as always on the farm, there is some little glitch to climb over … Tamryn had hired a ute’ from Bunnings in Taree for this weekend, where they then left their vehicle and drove here. All good, but …. There was something not right with the brakes of this ute’ as they would not work and then would jam tight and lock the back right wheel, so was really not safe for them to drive. Tamryn contacted the manager in Taree at Bunnings and explained the problem, and she – the manageress - tried to contact a mechanic to come out here to our farm to fix said ute’. That is where the problem escalated as she tried to contact ten different mechanics and none were available – especially being the weekend! Tamryn told the manageress that we have a friend just down the road from us who was a mechanic so would that help sort the problem out. The manageress was delighted and thus Tamryn contacted our good friend Peter, just down the road and he very kindly came up and fixed the brakes on the ute’.
Problem solved.
I packed the remaining bowls et cetera that we will take back down to our new home tomorrow, and I also packed my suitcase. As we leave the farm tomorrow morning.
Paddy arrived back on the farm at about two o’clock in the afternoon and it was so nice to have some time with him before we go back home.
After lunch Paddy walked up to see what progress had been made on Tamryn’s container home, and I followed him a little later.
I had hurt my left hip somehow over the last few days so was limping everywhere. It was so sore especially after sitting for a while, so I thought that with the aid of a walking stick I would walk the pain out, and that is actually what I did! I walked up the fairly steep hill to Tamryn’s home-in-progress and with much huff and puff managed to do so pretty well.
I stopped on the way up to take a few snaps as the view from up there, looking back over the front of the farm, is lovely.

I was suitably impressed with the work Matt’ and Tamryn have done on this little home. I think that Tamryn will spend many a happy hour in it when it is finished.
Paddy helped Matt’ stack all the plaster boards safely in the container and then when Tamryn and Matt’ had packed up and swept, leaving the container looking spic and span they came down to the bottom shed to pack their things up as they were leaving to go back home and drop the ute’ off in Taree. So, we waved them off with kisses and hugs as they bounced and banged their way off the farm, across the river and on their way back to Terrigal!
Slowly-slowly the day wound down and the night seeped in.
Paddy, Ken and I sat and watched some rugby on TV and later chatted while we ate our supper. Then it was time to head for bed and the three of us did so without any hesitation!
What lesson did I learn today? That you can achieve much in life with determination and careful planning.
What am I grateful for today? Time spent with family on the farm.
