Blog for Saturday 3rd October 2026

Love it!
Wow! Fantastic! Remember I said in my blog yesterday that I would wake Ken up so we could go out for breakfast this morning – well forget that – Ken came through to my study at twenty past seven this morning and he was off to shower and get ready for our day together! Hallelujah!
What a lovely way to start my day!
I drove us to Davistown and to the “The Little Teapot” – a rather quaint little shop that I had been to on Wednesday with some of the ex-South African ladies. I had said to Ken that I would like to take him there and so that little wish came true this morning!
The little shop was buzzing – just full – as it had been raining so it was a damp sort of day, which meant everyone wanted to sit inside and not outside at the back. I met Helen the owner and Ken and I had a chat to her – apparently, she has owned “The Little Teapot” for five years, but it has been going for twenty years. Incredible in this day and age when so many shops are closing.
"The Little Teapot" is a little bit of yesterday thumbing its thumb at the modern world - a quaintness amongst the common everydayness.
Ken and I had a lovely morning there – Ken had a breakfast roll with a flat white; and I had a scone, jam and cream with a little pot of Earl Grey tea! Delicious!
We stopped on our way home to put fuel into my car and then on back home. We were home by half past ten and still the whole day ahead of us.
Once we were home Ken went off to have a snooze and I attacked my cross stitch. I want to have got it to a certain stage then I will pack it up neatly and take it with us on the cruise as I am hoping to have some time to just chill and do a lot of cross stitching there. I would like to finish it this year if possible – or maybe I am being a little too ambitious, but … I can try! Then I will get it framed and hang it in our lounge with the rest of our African décor.
In the late afternoon I lay down on the couch and read my physical book which was wonderful. Outside it was miserable – grey, overcast with the odd shower of rain - an ideal day to be reading!
We had a light supper tonight and then both of us were tucked up in bed nice and early – Ken to do his Code Words and me to read.
We even remembered to forward our watches for Daylight Savings starts tomorrow.
What lesson did I learn today? To enjoy relaxing.
Waht am I gratefulnfor today? The gentle rain and time to read.
My saying for today is …
