Blog for 28th April 2025

I slept well and all that rain last night, that looked as if we were going to be smashed by it, floated blissfully over us and we received only 2.5mm of it - thankfully! As it is, with the river up this high, we will be here on the farm for at least another week - so we really do not need any more rain.

It is what we will make of it, not so?

My only concern is that I may run out of seed for all the birds, but … I will face that if and or when I have to. there is diddley squat I can do about it as I cannot get off the farm to purchase more. Luckily there is a lot of new grass and grass seeds so they will not go that hungry.

Today the sun has been playing peek-a-boo. So, just when I was tempted to hang the washing out, the clouds scurried across and blotted out the sunshine. Eventually, I chose the tumble drier for today.

This morning, I cleaned our home - swept and mopped our living area and then let Busy Lizzie (my robot vacuum and mop) do the work in the main shed area. Yoh! To get that concrete powder off will take months I think as it is such a large area to clean.

I worked on my first Scripture lesson for school although I think I will only be back next week – the river permitting. But I really like to be prepared long before I need to be. It gives me time to sort out games or handwork for after the lesson, allowing me plenty of time to sort through or choose what I need to emphasize the lesson for that day.

Shoo! But while I was working on my SRE lesson I suddenly felt really terrible. I mean suddenly! I was wracked with pain, a very tight constriction around my rib cage area. Initially I thought it could be severe indigestion, but no, it was not that. I got myself downstairs and lay on the bed alongside Ken feeling horrible. Then as suddenly as it began it was gone. I felt one hundred percent again, as if that had not ever happened!

Well, it was enough to scare the living daylights out of me, and I made an appointment with our doctor, as I had said to him at the end of last year that I needed to have a full checkup – something I have never done! Maybe at age almost eighty should! So that scare motivated me to do something about it!

One can find the positive in every negative if you try hard enough!

Tonight, Ken and I have voted to have my home made soup again as it is very filling, easy to slurp and is full of all things good.

Tomorrow I am going to try my hand at slow cooking some brisket. I took it out to defrost yesterday to get it ready for Paddy et famille, but it seriously does not look like they will be able to come as the river is still so high. I will cook it and freeze most of it to serve when they are able to get here if it turns out nicely.

In the late afternoon I ordered a few items from the South African Shop online – items that are not sold here in Australia and which we miss a bit. So I am looking forward to receiving that  parcel!

What lesson did I learn today? To listen to my body.

What am I grateful for today? That we did not get a deluge of rain again, but only the odd light shower.

My saying for today is …

Nothing can destroy iron, only its own rust can.  Likewise, nothing can destroy you, but your own mindset can.
Nothing can destroy iron, only its own rust can.  Likewise, nothing can destroy you, but your own mindset can.
