Good summary of our culture now days!
Last night both Ken and I had a restless night. I had just gone to sleep when Ken got up as he was in pain and needed to take a Panadol tablet and that woke me up.
That was the end of my sleep for after tossing and turning I got up, made myself a coffee and went up to my studio to do some studying until I got tired again. As you do.
The time was eleven o’clock and the rain was pelting down and whacking down hard on our tin roof. It really sounded as if the weathermen had predicted correctly, but I had to wait until the morning to see if that was true.
When I went downstairs and into our bedroom, there my man was up in bed, lights on, with his phone in hand, as he too was unable to sleep.
We both snuggled down under the duvet, and I think Raafie was delighted that these two old geezers were at last sleeping and not upsetting his sleep!
At about eight this morning, I fed the chooks and guinea fowl and shame their run is like a quagmire just wet-wet-wet and muddy beyond muddy!
At nine o’clock I checked our rain gauge and we had had 37.5mm of rain overnight which meant that the river would most definitely be up again!
At about eleven I decided to drive down to check the river and take some videos and photos to show Ken and to send to our family. I just drove down to the gate opposite the bottom shed as I was not sure if there would be turning space above the river as I had no idea if it was that high or not. So I walked the rest of the way down to the river. You could hear the roaring from up at the top shed so I knew the river was in flood yet again. But when I walked back to drive back home, the ute’ s battery was as flat as flat could be! Bless it! (Not!) So I walked back home and would have to try and jump start it or charge it or whatever! G-r-e-a-t! At least I would be learning something new in doing so.

Only half our river crossing is visible here. It is getting wider with each flood!
I think Ken and I will have to face it that we are here on the wrong side for at least another week, which means Ken cannot see the specialist again, Paddy et famille will not be able to come to the farm, and I will run out of feed for the chooks and guinea fowl. Our food supply is still fine and the dogs have more than enough food still left.
At lunch time I was wrapped in an old raincoat, and armed with Paddy’s magic machine when I walked down to the ute’. Yoh! I almost blew both ends of my body apart trying to lift the bonnet of the ute’ up. Why? Because the ute’ was parked in a deep puddle and that meant for me to lift the bonnet I was standing on my tippy-toes and had to lift the bonnet up way above my head. But after several tries and much snorting, I managed to get the bonnet up, and I connected the magic machine to the battery terminal correctly, and ‘Tarrah!’ -with a flick of the key the engine purred to life!
I have now learnt something new today!
Ken spent most of today sleeping or lying down as his tummy was giving him problems. I will try to encourage him to do his exercises at least a couple of times today. Yesterday, I think, he overdid walking around on his own, minus the walker.
Yes, my good man did his exercises!
This afternoon I completed a Bible Study course on “How to Study the Bible” put out by the Dallas Theological Seminary – it was excellent, and I thoroughly enjoyed doing i, plus I learnt a lot.
Tonight, Ken and I are having the soup I made yesterday, and maybe I can tempt Ken to have a toasted sarmie with his soup too. My mouth is sill too sore to chomp on toast, so I have to be patient and allow it to heal more.
Aha! I learnt something else today – I put Ken’s email onto his new i-Phone using a LOT of patience and reading everything slowly and voila! I managed to do that for him which was quite an achievement for me whose IT knowledge is extremely limited!
What lesson did I learn today? That you are never too old to learn something new. Yes, you CAN teach an old dog tricks!
What am I grateful for today? That we did not have too much rain today as we did last night!
My saying for today is …
