Blog for Monday 12th January 2026

A new day arrived in the dark. I stumbled out of bed and into the darkness. It was four o’clock in the morning and … what was that I heard?

Rain!

Beautiful solid rain falling from the still dark sky above us. What a marvelous sound that was.

Later, after my Quiet Time, and when I fed the birds – guinea fowl and chooks – I checked the rain gauge – we had had 17mm of glorious rain overnight! Oh, what a lovely feeling. We still need much more rain to break this long dry period, and to heal our pastures.

I think I did mention in my blog yesterday that I have been asked to address the church on a “Mission Sunday” about the work we are involved in through SRE (Special Religious Education) in the schools in our community. So, this morning I worked on my speech or talk.

Yahee! I think I have more or less got it done, maybe will have to do a few more tweaks before I am happy with it. I also need to check on the exact amount of time they are wanting me to speak for.

I am to speak for about 12 to 15 minutes, and I read my talk out to Ken, and he really loved it. So, tick, that is done and dusted then!

Next, I typed out the farm expenses for last month and emailed them down to Ren’ (our daughter-in-law who does the farm books). Yes! I know I am a bit late, but hey, better late than never, ne?

After having got that done I then did the ironing. Yep! Also, all done and dusted. What a nice feeling. I felt angelic!

At about half past two Ken left the farm to drive back into Wauchope to pick up the quad bike that Norm’ fixed overnight. What a good man! Ken needs at least one quad bike on the farm and so it will be a blessing to get that one back.

Of late Ken has been taking Raafie (our Jack Russell) with him in the ute’ and Raafie feels ever so important. Just the boys together, leaving all the girls – Thandie, Thogo, Jabu and me behind on the farm!

I love it that Paddy forwards all the beautiful photos of our little great-granddaughter, Zara, to us. Her being in Melbourne means we will not get to see her that often so that makes these photos so precious.

Ah-ha! Thinking of babies, our nephew Seth and his partner, Kirsty’s baby girl arrived at ten o’clock last night after a traumatic labor, poor girl. She ended up having to have a Caesar and landed in ICU too. Not a fun experience all round for either of them, nor for their little one. They have named her Charlotte Fay and she weighed 3kgs. We are so happy to welcome her into our ever-expanding family!

Tonight, I made some savory mince, rice and peas with a cheese sauce for our supper. If I have time I may add butternut too.

What lesson did I learn today? Think about it, Plan it. Write it down. Do it.

What am I grateful for today? The beautiful rain.

My saying for today is …
