Blog for Monday 19th January 2026

I leapt out of bed as my alarm began to chime – talk about being keen to live in this new day!

I went up to my studio and had my Quiet Time and watched the new day slowly seep across the sky under the heavy grey overcast skies.

Yahee! We had a few showers overnight and we had 21mm of rain – so we are slowly adding up the drops and over the last few days we have had almost 89mm – which is about 3.5 inches! That must help the pastures grow well. Today has been a gray sort of day with the odd shower of rain passing over the farm, which is marvelous as it will keep the ground moist.

I did all my ironing this morning, then sorted out the two fridges in our living area and will attack the fridge at the back in the main shed area tomorrow.

That took me a few seconds to type and tell you, but in reality, it was a lot, lot longer to do! But … the positives are that the ironing is now up to date and the fridges cleaned out – nothing grey or hairy hiding anywhere! I checked.

Ken left the farm at about two o’clock I think, after having charged the ute’s battery overnight – and can you believe it, the wretched thing - it still did not start! So, he linked the tractor battery to the ute’s and that worked. Ken was sitting on the tractor yelling many loud instructions at me, who was seated in the ute’ trying to look intelligent and understanding, but Ken was telling me to turn the ute’s engine on with much shaking of head and rolling of eyes. Shoo! Women can be stupid ne? I could not get what on earth Ken was talking about as the ute’ s engine was already running. W-e-l---l, after Ken almost lost all his hair with frustration as he could not hear me, what with the tractor and the ute’s engines revving flat out, but eventually he caught onto what I was saying. The ute’ was working! Life then became quieter and a lot calmer!

All ended well, and Ken and Raafie went off to fetch the big quad bike that has just been repaired and I came back inside and finished off cleaning the fridges, pots and pans.

Ken got back home at about half past four, and Raafie was delighted to be back with the other three dogs – all of them haring around outside with the zoomies – just happy to be together again.

Tonight, I am making a scrambled egg dish with onions, shredded cheese and sliced and diced pieces of steak all mixed in and will serve that piled high on toast.

I had a lovely long chat online to Kerry’ – our eldest daughter in South Africa - late this afternoon. It was great catching up with all her news and listening to her sheer delight at being a grandmother. Cole, her grandson, (who is now four months old) and our great-grandson will call her ‘Kiki’ and James, his grandfather is ‘Kulu.’

What lesson did I learn today? To keep my head down, rear end skyward and do what I have to do.

What am I grateful for today? More rain.

My saying for today is …
