Blog for Monday 2nd February 2026

I had a good sleep last night – well, that I was aware of. Ken says he is astounded that I get up at the hour I do get up at, as I talk, yell, or leap about when I sleep and should wake up wrung out or at least feel as if I had been left in a tumble drier for a week! W-e-l-l, sometimes I do feel like that!

I made myself a coffee and went up to my studio to have my Quiet Time. No reading through the Bible chronologically this morning – as that is not published on a Sunday – but that is a Monday for us here in Australia. It is nice as it allows me a day to go over what I have read and learnt during the week.

We had 12mm of rain over night and today, it was grey with soft drizzle that appeared and disappeared throughout the day. It was lovely and cool and the sort of day one could lie in bed reading, but … no, heaven forbid that I even think of doing that! erish that thought woman!

Instead, I did a load of washing, put on some savory mince to simmer slowly in a slow cooker, peeled potatoes ready to cook and mash later, and I chopped up a butternut which I shall cook later, and I will also cook some peas. We will have a cottage pie, (I will add cheese to the mashed potato too as that is yummy) plus the veggies for supper tonight.

As I am doing the ‘Kids Talk’ in church fairly soon I decided to work on that this morning. I just jotted down a few ideas and did a rough sketch of my talk. I find if I get those sorts of things - the skeleton of a talk - done early I do not stress at all, and eventually it all comes together.

I swept our home this morning but did not mop the floors because Raafie was in and out with wet paws, creating muddy patterns everywhere.

I had a lovely hot shower, got dressed and then went up to my studio to catch up with paperwork. I needed to send the Farm Expenses for January, down to Ren’ for the Farm Books.

Done. Wonderful!

I sent out emails to our Bible Study Group regarding questions to think about before this Wednesday – all on Daniel 8 that we studied last week.

I sorted out most of the papers on my desk today, but I seriously need to do a major rehaul of all things paper – records, files, blah blah fish paste. I shudder when I even think about doing that, but I would like to have things up to date and neatly stored. Most of them are, but there are a few still flapping around not having found their place in the chaos yet!

In the late afternoon I did a few rows of knitting, but the rows are so long – about 200 stitches, that it takes a while to knit a row! But ... baby steps and I will get there.

I did not realize that Paddy was only arriving late tonight as Ken had not told me – for the whole day I thought Paddy would be arriving any moment, but in the late afternoon I asked Ken, and he told me then that Paddy would only be arriving tonight!  Shoo! Talk about communication scrambled on crossed lines!

I had hoped that we would have rain all day today, but nope. That did not happen, but it was overcast and threatening to rain yet did not. At least it was cooler and the sun did not dry up the little rain we had had received.

What lesson did I learn today? To enjoy my day.

What am I grateful for today? The rain we did get.

My saying for today is …
