Blog for Saturday 22nd August 2026

I only got out of bed at six o’clock this morning after that terrible night’s rest last night. I just could not go to sleep and blah blah blah fish paste.

But I need to zip my lips and not moan at all, as I have all day to catch up with my sleep if I want to, so there is nothing to snort or whinge about, now is there?

I had my Quiet Time, uploaded my blog (rather late today I am afraid!) and zipped through my emails.

I showered and got dressed before sorting out one of my desk drawers and then I did some cross stitching for a short while.

When Ken got up, I suggested that later on we go for a walk to the Regional Gallery/Japanese Gardens and have a light lunch there. Ken agreed whole-heartedly. Good!

So, later on Ken had a shower and got dressed, and then we set of at a leisurely pace for the Regional Galley just over the road from us.

At first, I thought it was closed but as we got closer, I could see that the temporary kitchen caravan was operational, thank goodness.

Ken ordered me some fish and chips and a coke, and he had an egg and bacon roll with a flat white coffee. Both helpings were huge, so I battled to finish mine, but Ken soldiered on and licked his plate clean! Good man. Me - wicked woman!

As it was such a beautifully warm and sunny day, I suggested that I get our canvas chairs out and sit in the sun on our little postage stamp lawn – which we both did.

As we were sitting there – my little feathered friends – two ducks from the Japanese Gardens came to visit and beg for food. I gave them some cooked rice and cooked peas, and they loved that. They then settled down on the grass close to me and nodded off for a bit. I guess it is safe here in our little garden and they were most content to stay.

Ken went inside to have a rest at about three o’clock, but I stayed outside as it was just so nice out there and I read my book.

Then as the sun slid down the pale blue linen of the sky it began to get cool very quickly.

I packed our canvas chairs away and came inside pronto.

As we had a late lunch, we opted not to have supper tonight, which was fine by me as that meant I need not cook.

I came inside and did a little more cross- stitching and read more of my book and then swopped over to listening to my audio book so that I could sew.

It has been a beautiful day and one I am glad that I got to live in it.

I presumed that Ren’ and Tamryn had arrived on the farm safely to celebrate Paddy special birthday on Monday at, guessing, about lunch time today? Yes, they did!

I am delighted that they – both Ren’ and Tamryn are on the farm with Paddy as they have not been there for ages, and it would be nice for Paddy to be able to show them all the things that he has done since moving onto the farm.

I need to go back to the farm too as I have not been there for ages too.

I plan to go to bed early tonight and hopefully both Ken and I will have a good night’s rest tonight!

Ken sat with me and watched one episode of "Clarkson's Farm" tonight and he seemed to have enjoyed it so I think it is a series that we will be able to watch together, which would be lovely.

What lesson did I learn today? To enjoy the sunshine while it is out!
