Blog for Sunday 18th January 2026

I woke up and slipped out of bed and was delighted to be greeted by the shushing sound of soft rain tap-tapping on our tin roof. Wonderful! It was a marvelous way to start a new day.

I toddled up to my studio and had my Quiet Time. I had no paraphernalia to take to church as I was not on duty anywhere. Ken was, but he was not feeling well so he asked another guy to stand in for him today and Ken will do his duty next time.

Before I went to shower, I went outside to check the rain gauge and to feed the birds – that is, the guinea fowl and chooks. We had 56mm of rain overnight which was just magical!

I came back inside and showered and got myself dressed for church, then said my “Goodbye!” to Ken and Raafie and went out to the ute’ in my gumboots as it was a little soggy outside and opening and closing gates I needed them on.

W-e-l-l, that was my intention anyway, but when I went to start the ute’ it was as dead as a doornail. Not even the slight turning over of the engine.

So, I had to go back inside and wake my poor man up and tell him my problem. Ken tried to kickstart the engine with a charger, but apparently the parking lights had been left on for a very long time, and the engine was having none of this starting up stuff happening.

I was so disappointed as I was looking forward to Tony’s sermon, but … it was what it was, so I came back inside, took off my church glad rags, put on my ‘jamas and went up to my studio.

I had a lot of Bible studies to catch up on, as I am late in starting the Two-Year Chronological Walk Through the Bible this year, so I began to do just that. I loved that course which I completed at the end of last year. So, I think I will continue to repeat it every two years from now onwards.

As it was a Sunday, I took today slowly and very gently. It was a rainy sort of day, so it was easy to do that.

Yahee! I was so happy as I caught up with all the Bible readings (for the Two-Year course) up to today! Hallelujah! That was a serious marathon, but it is done and dusted now. But as I only downloaded the transcripts, I still have to reset them all, which I will do slowly-slowly day by day until I am up to date.

Today the skies above us have just wept and wept off and on, making it a quiet and very grey day here on the farm. But I was so happy for our pastures we need every drop of rain that fell.

I have not tried to start the ute’ again, as we did not need to go anywhere, but I will try again in the morning. The battery needs to have a serious re-charging, that is all.

At about seven o’clock this evening, I decided that it was time for me to watch something on TV, so I did so. Just something light and fun.

What lesson did I learn today? To thoroughly enjoy the day quietly.

What am I grateful for today? More rain!

My saying for today is …
