Blog for Sunday 5th October 2025

I woke up nice and early, then … but suddenly it was not so early as we had to move our clocks forward an hour for Daylight Saving! Done.

Today is a “Happy Birthday” for Bianca – one of our five granddaughters. My goodness gracious golly gee! She is turning twenty – nine today! That means we have one grandson of thirty-three, a granddaughter of thirty-one, two grandsons of thirty, and now two granddaughters of twenty-nine! That leaves a granddaughter of twenty-seven, a grandson of twenty-five, another grandson of twenty-three, a granddaughter about to turn nineteen and a grandson of seventeen!

One day they were babies and now look how old they are already! These are the very best grandchildren too!

After my Quiet Time I made sure that I had all my things for my “Kids Talk” and the bag containing all the items I had bought for the hampers being made up for the “Wauchope’s Got Talent” competition to raise funds for Kai to fly to the USA for some talent show over there.

As usual I was driving and normally Ken shaves his face while I am doing so. But … this morning his electric razor would not work as it was ‘Locked’ and he had no idea of how to unlock it! That was a glitch as Ken’s face was terribly  fluffy around the edges – way behind the stubble look!

I suggested I make a quick stop at Ritchies on our way into Wauchope to buy a razor and some shaving cream. I did so and Ken shaved in the church bathroom as we got there.

Ken was on Door Duty; we were both on Tea Duty and I also did the ‘Kids Talk’ – a seriously Morgan morning show today!

After church I re-fuelled my car,  bought some flowers and. How ids for Mariaan and Tinus then set sail or Port Macquarie, where I hoped that my rememberer would remember how to get to their home again.

Hallelujah! It did!

It was quite incredible as Felix, their feline, remembered me after not seeing me for a year! He is a highly nervous cat and normally runs and hides when he hears people arriving, but nope, today he waited on the chair he was lying on when he heard me and came across to me to say ‘Hello’ with a head butt and much rubbing of my hand. Very cute.

We spent several happy hours with Tinus and Mariaan – catching up on all our news, plus I will soon be looking after their home and Felix whilst they jet across to Mauritius for three weeks to join their kids on holiday, so Mariaan is busy making up a list of when to put their bins out, how to use the washing machine etcetera.

Ken and I only got home at half past four, so Ken went out immediately to move the cattle in and out of the clover filled Pteridium Camp to prevent their getting bloat.

We skipped supper as we only ate lunch very late at Mariaan and Tinus’ and we climbed into bed fairly early.

I was soon fast asleep. I left Ken watching some rugby match on his phone in bed alongside me.

What lesson did I learn today? That I really enjoy teaching children.

What am I grateful for today? Good friends.

My saying for today is …
