Blog for Sunday 6th September 2026

Yahee! Another birthday in our family today – this time it is Tamryn’s birthday, and a biggie one too. Tamryn turns thirty today, so a very special birthday for sure! It is lovely that Tayla, Malcolm and Zara are up from Melbourne to celebrate it with her too. A proper family occasion - a quiet celebration with just Paddy, Ren’, Tayla, Malcolm, Zara, Tamryn, Ashleigh and Matt’ there. Lovely!
I got up at four o’clock this morning, and as I stepped out of the bedroom into the living area there was Pumpkin waiting ever so patiently for me to come and feed her! Shame, poor girl is ruled by her stomach much like me!
Thankfully, Ken is feeling one hundred percent well again this morning – he thought it may have been the prawns in the pasta dish he had for lunch yesterday. I was really very concerned about him yesterday as he was certainly not at all well.
Before we left the farm to go to church, Ken went out to move the electric tape and allow the cows to get to new pastures, but there was not enough time to put out a new bale for the weaners – that Ken would do when we arrived back home later.
On our way to church I stopped at Ritchies to buy some cakes for teatime at church today - it being Father’s Day. It was a crazy feeling of déjà vu standing in the church kitchen area setting out the little cakes I had bought. It was as if I had gone back in time and that we had never left the area!
It was lovely seeing all our friends again at church – we have been so happy with this group of people over the years and they were happy to see us too.
After church we again stopped at Ritchies as I wanted to get some groceries and stuff to treat Paddy’s leather lounge suite – seeing it was my little dog that has caused the wear and tear on it! Raafie has this habit of leaving muddy foot tramps over everything - and on the farm, that happens continually. “Sorry, Paddy!”
Once home Ken went out to feed a new bale of silage to the weaners and I sat outside watching my crazy feathered friends, the guinea fowl and enjoying the vast space around me.
Then I decided to watch the All Blacks versus the Springboks (union rugby match) – yes, the match that was played n the very small hours of today. I watched the recorded game from the very beginning – long before the game actually began and I loved every moment of it. The Springboks won by five points only – the final score being 27 – 22
Well, watching that rugby game swallowed my Sunday afternoon totally, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Ken finished off my squid from our meal out yesterday as I was not hungry and then I crawled into bed at a very early hour – just to get toasty warm and to listen to my audio book.
At seven o’clock in the evening, I lay there all snug as a bug in a rug in bed and watched my favorite show on Channel Nine – “The Block”. Sunday nights being my favorite evening to watch as they do “The Reveal” – which means we get to see the finished rooms/rooms that the contestants on “The Block” have created during the week. I marvel at how much work these people get through and the amazing results they get too. Fascinating stuff!
After my show I was about to snuggle down behind Ken in bed, when out of the corner of my eye something moved to my right on the bed! Now, Ken sleeps with a pillow over his head so when I turned to see what had caught my eye, I espied an enormous Huntsman spider, the size of my hand crawling over his pillow. Now, Ken hates spiders and I could only imagine what would happen should it crawl over his hand lying on the pillow to hold it down over his head! Immediate expiration of my man!
So, I called out to him and said, “Nu, don’t get excited I am going to flick your pillow off your head as there is something on it!” And as I sat up, I had an excruciating cramp in my left thigh so I only managed to flick the pillow to the end of the bed. Ken shot out of bed with an extremely perturbed look on his face, not knowing what I was talking about, but when he saw the size of the spider, he completely understood why I had done what I had done! Shame, poor guy absolutely hates spiders.
The story ended well for us, and we were soon both fast asleep with one little hairy hound in bed with us and no spider in sight
What lesson did I learn today? That there is a season for everything under the sun, so enjoy whatever season you are in as it does not last forever.
What am I grateful for today? Good friends.
My saying for today is …
