Blog for Thursday 24th April 2025

I just LOVE this saying!

When I got up this morning the rain was smashing down on our tin roof – what a cacophony of sound. I hoped it was an odd shower and that it had not been raining all night. I will only be able to see when it is light enough to judge.

By seven thirty we had had 28mm of rain overnight, and by just after nine (the normal time for me to check the rain gauge) we had had 33.5mm of rain overnight! Wow! wonder everything looked soggy!

Although today has been a grey and overcast sort of day we only had 2mm of rain during the day, but I could hear the river roaring so it is way up again. both Ken and I were not feeling that crash hot – Ken, after his exercises felt a little nauseous and I had horrible tummy cramps off and on all day.  But I am sure that we will both feel fine tomorrow.

I unpacked a few more things out of the one large wooden box and then I decided that I would do a few more rows of my baby shawl after I had cleaned our home.

I am having to push, pull, and cajole myself into finishing this baby shawl as this border is taking me forever and a day to complete. I think it is the sheer monotony that is killing me but soon I will have to have my wits about me as I do the final intricate patterned rows to finish it. Oh, I cannot wait for that!

I love the way the dogs - all four of them – are sitting outside waiting for their food at about four o’clock each day. What a show of appreciation for my food preparation for them all! I must admit I enjoy finding the odd titbits to add to their food each day and watching their enjoyment as they munch with great joy!

I think to morrow I will take all my things – laptop, Bible, books blah blah fish paste back up to my studio. “Why?” you ask? Because the untidiness of those things on the dining-room table is beginning to irritate me! Plus, I reckon walking up and down those stairs is good exercise for me as I always end up going up and down, up and down all day long!

I am delighted to have unpacked my two slow cookers at long last out the one wooden box! Yahee! Now, I need to check what I have in the deep freeze suitable for creating a meal in one of them.

Tonight, I made grilled lamb chops with lemon pepper, tiny taters slathered in butter, peas and butternut for our supper.

Ah-ha! I must choose a travel insurance for our trip to Seattle in July/August this year, but I will tackle that tomorrow. There are so many to choose from, but I think I have made up my mind but need to just check again. Unfortunately, at our age this insurance is extremely high but understandably so.

I did not go down to check the river levels as the one quad bike is wedged in by the two large wooden boxes up here in this shed so I cannot get it out, and the other one is down in the bottom shed. Plus, going down in the ute’ it is awkward to turn around to return back home if the river is really high. I checked from my studio and yes, the river is up but I am praying it will have gone down again by the time I have to take Ken back to the specialist next Wednesday.

The day was slowly swallowed by the darkness of the night, and it was time to go to sleep again.

What lesson did I learn today? Some days are necessarily quieter than others.

What am I grateful for today? That I completed a few more rows of my baby  shawl.

My saying for today is …
