T-r-i-n-g! T-r-i-n-g! Ah! THAT ditty again – time for me to roll out of bed, and I did so quickly.
I had a quiet giggle to myself because when I slipped on my sandals and tried to walk out our bedroom, I felt terribly lopsided – such a strange feeling when you are only half awake!
I discovered I had two different shoes on! One was a high heeled wedge shoe and the other a flat sandal! So, no wonder I felt lopsided. What a Wally I am! But a nice way to wake up giggling!
I went up to my studio and had my Quiet Time, uploaded my blog and planned my day of cleaning and sorting things.
I managed to find some nice little pictures and printed them off for my Kids Talk – I will cut them out and glue them onto stiffer paper and use them in my talk on Sunday. I think they are nicer than the drawings I have drawn so I will use them instead.
In the evening, I ended up sticking the pictures onto wooden sticks which will be easier to display as I talk.
As we are having friends over for morning tea tomorrow, I thought I would do some baking after I had swept, mopped and generally cleaned the living and bathroom areas.
But … just as I was almost finished doing all the scrub-a-dub scrubbing of said areas, Ken phoned to tell me that he had taken the ute’ into our mechanic and he had said that Ken could not drive it anymore as the universal joints were broken at both ends of the something! He said it was far too dangerous.
I must admit that I had been saying that the ute’ did not feel right and each time we drove out in it I was expecting a back wheel to come hurtling passed us as a rate of knots as we were driving, or something equally dramatic! And I am no mechanic!
Anyway, the short of a long story was - Ken needed a lift home and guess who was the only one available to do that!
Yep! Me.
Small problem though – there were no quad bikes and no ute’ – that meant I had to walk down to the river and wade across the river, uncover my little car and drive into Wauchope to pick up my man!
It is at moments like that that I need some outside help to keep my hair on my head, prevent eye rolling and words muttered not worth hearing. So, slapped a smile on my face turned the radio on real loud and bounced along in time to the music and songs all the way into Wauchope, and I was as cool and calm as a cucumber on arrival there!
I picked Ken up, turned around and drove all the way home again.
Once down at the river we chose a stick for Ken to help him balance (he broke his walking stick in town today!) and the two of us old dears staggered, slipped and slid across the river and trudged up the hill back home.
All four dogs were delighted to have us home again! But not half as delighted as we were to get back! Huff-puff.
Tonight, I started a new routine for us. We sat at the dining room table to have supper together - no i-phones allowed, and after we had eaten, we did a daily devotional together and then discussed three questions relating to the Bible readings. A nice new habit to start.
Tonight, we had sweet potato chips, peas and savory meat pies for supper. Although neither of us were hungry we ate it all – almost licking our plates clean!
I crawled into bed at about nine o’clock and read for a short while before my eyes slammed shut loudly!
What lesson did I learn today? One’s original plans do not always work out! You have to learn to adapt them.
What am I grateful for today? That the ute’ is getting repaired and will be safe to drive soon.
My saying for today is …
