Blog for Wednesday 9th September 2026

I only got up at a quarter past four this morning and I tip toed through to the living area, lit the fire, fed Pumpkin and had my Quiet Time. It was cool but not really cold in the wee hours of today, but I love the glow of the fire in the darkness of a new day, and I find it comforting and it warms the room quickly.
Frik woke up and came staggering through at about six or half past six – I did not look at my watch at the time – and he had a coffee and biscuits and went back to his bed as he was cold.
A little later Frik braved the cold yet again and came through for another coffee and chat. He had decided not to go fishing as it was too cold, plus he had walked and walked up and down the river yesterday with absolutely no luck. I think it is still too cold or maybe the fish are becoming wiser and not opening their mouths so quickly to swallow his bait!
Frik was delighted that Pumpkin (Paddy’s cat) allowed him to stroke her as she is a little skitsy when she first meets a person. But she liked Frik and she is such a beautiful cat, that you do feel honoured when she allows one to approach her!

Frik had some cereal with me and then he packed up, said “Cheers!” to Ken who was still in bed, and he headed back home where the fish could not irritate him .
Frik must have left the farm at about half past seven – at a guess?
When Frik left I headed for the back of the shed – in the main area where Paddy is busy constructing the steel fencing for the new ‘yards here, and I began to sort out what we need to take back with us, plus I sorted out the bedding that had been draped over the one armchair there.
I really hope to make the shed neater for Paddy and get a lot of our stuff out of his way. So much can be given away or chucked now as we have not an inch to squeeze anything more into our new little home.
Not to allow what I want to do to overwhelm me! It would be nice to see the shed looking a little less cluttered with all our stuff and that Paddy will be able to get his stuff organised once we have moved out properly.
I saw this morning that the weathermen predicted a 90% chance of rain here today – I pray that they are correct in their forecast. It would be lovely to have some rain and to hear it pelt down on the tin roof again! Maybe tonight?
I did a load of washing for Paddy and hung it outside and I was able to bring it in at lunch time as it was all bone dry. I cannot do any ironing as my iron is back home in East Gosford now. Wonderful excuse for laziness, Gail Morgan!
I am slowly-slowly trying to tidy the shed and make it neater and easier for Paddy to work in there. But I think it will take another few trips for me to complete it properly for him. Just to move or get rid of our excess stuff. I am sure we will not even miss half of it if we cannot see it – that is one blessing of getting old – out of sight out of mind and all that jazz!
When Ken went out to feed the cattle another bale of silage at about half past four this afternoon, I prepared the fire for lighting later as there was a really nippy wind blowing. I think we may get some rain in the late evening well, I am holding onto that positive thought anyway.
For our supper we had baked lamb chops (in the air fryer) mashed potatoes and corn, carrots and peas! I had hoped to add butternut to that but I ccouldnot find a knife sharp enough to chop it up with. I will have to look harder tomorrow for one.
What lesson did I learn today? Not to allow what I need to do to overwhelm me. But to take baby steps to achieve my goals.
What am I grateful for today? What I managed to get done.
My saying for today is …
