Blog for Friday 14th August 2026

This morning, I got up just before my alarm began to shriek, and I tumbled out of bed and went straight to my study to have my Quiet Time.

This morning I uploaded my blog but left checking my emails for later as Mich’ was coming across for an early morning visit before she began her work

I showered early and got myself dressed quickly.

Mich’ was coming over to have breakfast with me this morning – and she was hoping to get here by half past seven.

Unfortunately, she got caught up in helping some Vet’ clinic needing her help, so she only got here at eight o’clock.

It was fine with me as I had nothing to do nor anywhere to be by a certain time anyway. It is called ‘retirement’!

I created us a nice breakfast – mashed avocados on toast, topped crispy bacon and poached eggs – a nice way to start the day!

We then had a coffee – followed by a second one before Mich’ had to rush off for work.

One of my good friends, Hester, is busy writing another book. Can you believe it? The stories seem to pour out of her and onto the page; she truly is such a gifted writer.

This morning while Mich’ was here with me I read a chapter of Hester’s book to her, and she was most impressed. “So, you go Hester – you go girl!”

Once I had waved Mich’ “Good-bye!” and she went off to work I planted all the slips of donkey tail succulent Mich’ had brought across for me.

A wretched rat had eaten mine, so I brought that newly planted donkey tail succulent pot inside and placed it on the one kitchen windowsill where it will be safe from any rodent.

Now, all I have to do is watch it grow!

In the late afternoon I watched a documentary on a volcano erupting off New Zealand – quite incredible. Nature is so fascinating, beautiful and terrible too, isn’t it?

Ken was already in bed, so I decided to have an early night too and was soon sound asleep.

What lesson did I learn today? To enjoy retirement!

What am I grateful for today? That Mich’ was able to come across and have breakfast with me.

My saying for today is …
