Blog for Friday 18th September 2026
I woke up just after half past two this morning thinking that I had overslept. But when I got out of bed I thought ‘I don’t remember the alarm ringing’ so I checked the time! Ah-ha! Back into bed. I rolled over and I slept until just before four o’clock; before my alarm could think of shrieking to wake me up!
I had my Quiet Time and said special prayers for my friend, Hester, who is grieving the loss of her beloved Whippet, Rocket. My heart is so heavy for her.
I uploaded my blog and checked through my emails – nothing urgent.
I then had a shower and got dressed and Ken woke up by himself, and he too had a shower and got dressed!
Ken had downloaded on the GPS how to get to Malcolm and Julie’s home, (a really lovely couple that we met on the farm when they came there to buy a young bull from us recently,) but I have no faith in Ken’s GPS or his directions as I remember recently going around and around in square circles to find NSW Services, and I was not keen to repeat that exercise surrounded by confusion - mine and the other motorists around us!
I wanted to go via Avoca Road, through Green Point, Kincumber et cetera, as the traffic is not as hectic there but Ken was insistent that we go via Terrigal. There was almost WWIII in my little car, but I took a deep breath and drove via Terrigal Drive and eventually we DID GET TO Malcolm and Julie’s home down on the water.
Oh, my goodness gracious me! Their home is beyond exquisite – it is beautiful and yet is such a family home too. I loved it. One of their sons lives next door to them as his wife was killed when she was out running on the pavement by a car, and she was very young at the time. They had three sons and the twins were only two years old when she died, so Julie stepped in and helped their son raise these young boys over the last ten years. Julie and Malcolm’s lives are very closely woven in and around these boys and it shows.
We waved our fond farewells to them and headed up to Mich’ and Robert’s for a coffee with them before heading back home.
Shoo! That was enough driving around in heavy traffic for one day I reckoned!
Mich’ text me to ask what I thought about this outdoor set on Market Place – something we have both been looking out for our little garden here. I said I could sand and paint it, and at $25 for table and six chairs it was certainly worth it. These table and chairs are made out of teak and are nice and heavy but a little grubby so need a little TLC and paint only. I am so chuffed with the set as I think it will look lovely once painted again. T finsih it off we will need to buy some nice cushions and an umbrella too.
Having the table and chairs outside also gives us more space to entertain family; and with summer coming soon we will sit outside a lot, I think. Next, I need to keep my eye open for a small barbeque to braai on.

Thank you again to Robert (our one son-in-law) for fetching this set for us – poor guy must be sick and tired of fetching and carrying for us, but he always does it with a smile!
In the afternoon I put on a slow cooker of chicken and veggie soup, I wanted to do that beforeI forget about the chicken and it gets to its expiry date. I think we will have a pasta meal tonight – not sure of what or how, maybe a basil-based pasta with tuna – hmm, not sure yet.
Nah, we had a pasta with basil pesto, shredded chicken and tossed in a cheese sauce – it was really nice.
This afternoon I also finished sorting out my book cupboards – and am happy with the result.
What lesson did I learn today? How happy and grateful I am for our little home.
What am I grateful for today? Having coffee at Malcolm and Julie’s stunning home with them this morning.
