Blog for Saturday 15th August 2026

I woke up at half past three, rolled over and dreamt a little longer.
I am taking this whole retirement side of my life now rather seriously and am so enjoying this slower pace of life!
I rolled out of bed just before five o’clock and went to my study to have my Quiet Time, upload my blog and check to see if there were any more chapters written by Hester last night. (I was just pushing my luck!)
Nope! She is busy finishing up writing/editing and choosing artwork for her two latest books for children, so hopefully she will soon be back writing “my story” again! The suspense is killing me!
Today has been overcast, the skies grey and lumpy and not sure of what they wanted to do, bring more rain or sunshine. It was also cold, so a stay-at-home sort of day was called for.
I have had a marvelously lazy day after I had done the housework for today. I simply sat in my study with the little heater huffing and puffing and filling my room with lovely warm air, as I listened to my Bible Study and did some more cross stitching.
Tomorrow early morning I will put the rolled shoulder of pork on in my slow cooker with the ingredients I was given to use for this. This meal is for the Worship EVening our church is hosting this Sunday night.
I thought it was so well done – this is the brown paper bag I was given with the recipe and my name printed on the outside of it. These bags were set up on a table at the back of the church last Sunday for us to collect. Inside it was a can of Coca Cola and a zip loc bag of BBQ sauce. I had bought my rolled shoulder of pork, but you could elect to collect one donated by someone else.

Onced it is cooked and tenfer we have to shred it for pulled pork. It is such a simple recipe and if it turns out nicely I will let you know.
In the late afternoon or early evening I watched a little TV – some documentary on the wonders and miracles of nature, and then I headed off to bed like a sleepy head!
What lesson did I learn today? To create my own fun and joy in each day.
What am I grateful for today? A lovely slow day at home.
My saying for today is …
