Blog for Thursday 22nd October 2026

My day began when I flopped out of bed and staggered towards the curtains drawn in front of our verandah – we were just beginning to be escorted into Christchurch by two tug boats, and my goodness gracious what a beautiful day too!

I had a shower early and got myself dressed and as Ken did not want to get up then, I took myself off to Café al Bacio on Deck 4 and got myself a latte and a banana muffin and I sat there watching our ship’s journey into Christchurch and watched the people getting off to go on one of the tours there.
Then I decided to go to “The Club” also on Deck 4 to see what happens there. They were busy playing a Trivia game and although I did not actually write my answers down, (as I arrived after the game had begun), I enjoyed the questions and answers as I always learn something. There were twenty questions and some people worked in large groups to answer the questions together as a team, and the one group managed to get nineteen questions out of the twenty asked correct! I was lucky if I got to fourteen! How sad.
After that game they played another game which I did not understand completely so was a little in the dark, it was called “Trivia: Before and After” One was given two sentences and you had to guess how they were linked by a word or two, but I found that quite difficult. Let me give you two of the easier examples –
Sentences given : “A board game of knowledge with a focus on collecting wedges and a 2006 film starring Will and Jaden Smith.”
Answer: Trivial Pursuit of Happiness.
Yeah, now you know why I battled a bit – here is another one –
Sentences given –“Reality competition hosted by Phil Keoghan and a long-distance sport in which one foot must always be in contact with the ground.”
Answer: Amazing Race Walking
I would get some of the answer but not the whole one! Any way it was fun for me to try.
I then went back to the cabin to make sure that Ken was up and dressed and we came back down to Deck 4 for me to have a coke and Ken to have coffee and some sandwiches.
Then from there we went back to “The Club” as I wanted to see what the Arts & Crafts: Masterpiece By Numbers was about. Ken came with me and he sat scrolling on his phone and there were only two passengers who were interested in this particular Arts & Crafts exercise – a young Indian woman and mwah! There were several printed pages of different designs of “Paint by Number” sheets and one could choose whichever one took your fancy, and a large container of lots and lots of pencil crayons and a large sharpener. Only I lasted the time there, but it gave me something different to do and it is also very relaxing. Ken was quite happy just sitting there while I ‘did my thing!’
We then came back to our cabin as it really is lovely in it and we see so much from our verandah. I also lay down and began to listen to one of my audio books. Ah, talk about being in relaxed mode!
Tonight we have an early dinner sitting so will be going off again to the Cypress Restaurant, but this time at 5.30pm which is good as I really want to go to the Theatre again. Tonight, should be another spectacular show and we hopefully can get into the early show.

Photo of me in one of the lounges before dinner and Ken selecting what he wanted from the menu.

The last photo is of the one little tugboat turning around and around in circles (you can see by the foam) to say “Good bye!” to us as we left the Christchurch harbor and headed out for another day at sea.
We went down to the lounge on Deck 4 for a drink and to watch the passing parade before heading into the Cypress Restaurant. I had the Shellfish bisque as a starter and the Cypriot Short Ribs for my entrée. Ken started off with snails and had a Sirloin Steak, and he ended his meal with Vanilla Ice-cream and I had Crème Brulee. Another fantastic meal down the hatch!

The view from our dinner table – watching this little tugboat say “Good bye!” to us.
Marvellous, we got to the Theatre in more than enough time and had we also got really good seats. It was a wonderful display of colors; sound and the acrobatics were to ogle at – two men and two young women had bodies that could fold in half – honestly – it was incredible to watch and with no safety nets to catch them should they make a mistake! Both Ken and I enjoyed the show and it was early to bed after that as the show was finished by 9pm
I did not stay awake for long but at a quarter to eleven I asked Ken to go to sleep and turn the lights off, which he kindly did. I had gone to sleep earlier but had woken up and the lights were irritating me and I could not go back to sleep.
We both slept.
What lesson did I learn today? You can something new every day if you allow yourself to!
What am I grateful for today? Another beautiful day.
My saying for today is …
