Blog for Tuesday 25th August 2026

I woke up twenty minutes before my alarm did this morning! Hah! Wide awake old lady!

I went to my study and had my Quiet Time, uploaded my blog from yesterday and checked my emails.

Then it was time for a shower and to get dressed for the day. I dug out of my clothes a top that I seldom really get a chance to wear as it has the Bible verse printed boldly on the front from Philippians 4: 3 “For I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” But I would wear it today as we were off to our Bible Study. This verse helped me through the times in my life when I have tied a knot at the end of my rope to prevent me from sliding off!

Our Bible Study Group was good this morning – there were eight of us and the young Associate Pastor Will’ took the meeting and he led it well. It was such a nice morning.

On our way home Ken suggested that we stop at the Regional Gallery for a coffee and cake! I thought it was a brilliant idea – so, I had a latte with a vanilla slice; and Ken had a flat white with an donut covered in icing. While we were sitting outside it began to spit so we were not long there and just as well as Ken was not allowed anything to eat or drink after eleven o’clock, because of his eye op’ this afternoon.

Ken left his cap there so when we got back home - just across the road - he said he would drive my car back there to fetch it. That was the first time he has driven in months, and he and the car and cap got back home safely too!

Before we went to Bible Study Group this morning, I put on a slow cooker of Apricot Chicken as I knew I would not have time to prepare supper later, as we would only get home well after half past seven, I think.

Once we got home from having our coffees and cakes I put on some potatoes for mash, and the veggies I can do when we get home after the op’. Or I may even make a salad instead.

Robert swung by us at about half past two – a bit early but with it raining and it being almost end of a school day it was wisest to be early.

Robert got us to the Tuggerah Lakes Private hospital in good time, and I went in with Ken to make sure that everything had been paid for.

Then Robert and I sat in his ute’ in the parking area - undercover as it was pouring with rain. Robert had his laptop and phone so was able to get his work done and I sat and listened to my audio book or played one of my NYT Games or Vita Mahjong when he was talking on his phone.

The sister that had admitted Ken to the theatre walked past Robert’s ute’ at about half past five and told me that she would let me into the hospital with her key (it is locked shut after five o’clock) and I could go upstairs and sit with him as he had just been given something to drink and eat.

Ken was a lot whoozier this time – maybe because I was able to get to him straight after he came out of the theatre, whereas last time Mich' and I were at Maccas when the sister phoned to say that Ken was ready to go home.

The two of us staggered in a zig-zag fashion to the lift, and Ken insisted that he could walk on his own, but I grabbed the belt loop at the back of his jeans to hold him upright each time he staggered or tripped! A picture of two old crazies!

Robert got us back home at about half past six, I think it was and Ken had some yoghurt to eat as he was not feeling hungry at all and he crawled into bed nice and early and hopefully, he would have a wonderfully deep sleep tonight.

The supper I had created for tonight was put away into the fridge and we could have that tomorrow night instead. I would find something to nibble on in our fridge to keep any hunger pains away.

The night was really wet and the rain fell gently – nice evening to curl up in bed nice and early.

I retired to bed and listened to my audio book – a Liane Moriarty book, “Truly Madly Guilty” – something light to listen to.

I miss not being able to hear the rain on the roof – on the farm the tin roof of the shed made sure that you heard every drop falling! I pray that the farm is getting some rain tonight.

What lesson did I learn today? How good it is to belong to a group of like-minded people.

What am I grateful for today? That Ken’s second cataract op’ was successful.

My saying for today is …
