Blog for Wednesday 26th August 2026

(Sorry I had such hassles with my internet this morning and could only upload my blog now! The above saying is very apt I reckon!)

I only rolled out of bed at half past four this morning after having had a lovely deep sleep, and so did Ken. No-no! He did not roll out of bed - he had had a good sleep and woke up when I got out of bed but was soon fast asleep again!

I am hoping to inspire Ken to help me install out doorbell at our front door, and maybe we can tackle making the shed tomorrow if his eye has settled down nicely.

When Ken came through for his first coffee of the day, he removed the eye-patch and this eye was not as bloody looking as his first eye was. In fact, it settled nicely and although he said it was a bit blurry – that is normal and by tomorrow he will notice the difference in his sight and the blurriness will be gone.

After whisking around with a flick-flick here and a flick-flick there of the duster and a sweep here and a sweep there and then following that with mad mopping and slopping. After which I put on the dishwasher and sorted washing (not to be done today though as I think we are heading for more rain today,) but sorting it into colored piles to maybe done tomorrow.

I then decided to put up the doorbell, which I managed to do very well on my own. I am very chuffed as it has a nice tune to it – not the normal “Ding-dong!”

We need that doorbell as often we do not hear people arriving and I hate to think of them standing outside while we are blissfully unaware of them being cornered by the weather outside while we languish inside nice and warm, totally oblivious of anyone’s discomfort!

This morning Paddy asked me so nicely if I could send him the Farm Rainfall figures for the last four years and I was happy to get those figures for him. I knew I would have a bit of a patience curve coming up while doing that, as those figures were on my old laptop which then needed to be fired up again. That alone takes forever and a day, but eventually after much groaning and hesitance the old laptop came to life! Whoo-hoo!

I was sure this now would be a one-two and three sort of operation and I would email the results to Paddy pronto.

Nah-nah! Not going to be that easy Gail Morgan, you illiterate IT person you!

Firstly, the Excel program was now antiquated, and it would not allow me to retrieve the records. Ngrrr! R-e-a-l-l-y things “expire” far too quickly - one cannot keep up with this world of technology!

I could see the information way-way in the background, and after removing several clumps of hair off my head in frustration I almost gave up, but … no I cannot allow that. To allow a machine to beat me is just not fair to an old lady!

I managed to get the records to Paddy for 2024; 2025; and 2026 but 2023’s figures are now swallowed or hidden by some computer monster. I will have to ask Mich’ to help me as I think I have managed to destroy or delete the ruddy information – and that is all my rainfall records from 2006, no-no, I lie I think it was from 2002 as I had the records of the two precious farmers on the farm too!

VERY annoying, And let me say here, after ALL the patience lessons I have completed, I think I have learnt diddley squat from them as I was almost smoking with frustration!

A picture of how I felt today!

Not a rough year, but a seriously rough day with my laptop!

Late in the afternoon I took the bins down to the road as Ken was sleeping this afternoon, and so he did not even have the lunch I had prepared – we will have to have it tonight now!

Some days just run along so nice and smoothly and others, one wonders if one is sitting on a volcano or experiencing an earthquake of some great magnitude!

I think I will leave my old laptop running so I do not have to build up a sweat trying to get it started again, and then at least I will be ready when Mich’ visits us.

Yes, I think I will be happy when today winds down and I can crawl into bed.

What lesson did I learn today? Hah! I don’t think I learn a thing! And I think I blew all the patience lessons from before to smithereens in one day!

What am I grateful for today? That I still have a few hairs left on my head!

My saying for today is …
