Blog for Wednesday 31st December 2025

ree

Wow! Here we are today – it is the last day of 2025 – can you believe that? This year has flown by so fast I feel as if I have missed much of it, and yet I have been present for every single day! Crazy feeling.

I had my Quiet Time up in my studio at just after four o’clock this morning and then uploaded my blog and answered emails before coming downstairs again.

I did a few more embroidered bullion roses on my little smocked dress for Zara – our brand-new great-granddaughter. Slowly-slowly I am getting the embroidery done. I hope to have that finished in a couple of days and then I can start to put the little dress together and sew it using my sewing machine.

As Ken was fast asleep and it did not look as if he would be getting up any time soon as he was tired, I crossed the river in the ute’, uncovered my little car and drove into Long Flat to pick up the Christmas gift I had ordered for Ken and me – a portable air con’ and heater unit. I was so excited to get it at long last.

On getting back, I had to cover my car again with the hail resistant cover we have for it, but I do a LOT of eye rolling and high stepping as I always half expect some reptile to be lurking in the folds of the cover! It is quite possible … and I know it!

I am a little disappointed in this air cooler/heater as it does not seem to be that strong in cooling the room, but I will get Ken to have a look at it tomorrow to see that I have put it together correctly. I am hoping that I have not, and that is the reason for it not working that well.

I have spent most of today – off and on – embroidering my smocked dress. I also did a load of washing and hung it out and then tried putting up the beautiful huge outside umbrella, a gift from Mich’ and Robert for us at Christmas. It really is lovely as the shade covers the whole outside table which is a blessing in the heat.

In the mid-afternoon Ken tried to clear the blocked drain from the kitchen sink, but after all the things were pulled out from under the sink and scattered with gay abandon on the living room floor, apparently the blockage is a lot further down in the pipe outside and not in the pipe in the kitchen sink after all! I will clean the floor and shelves up tomorrow as it is after all New Year’s Eve and not what I want to be doing tonight!

While Ken was yanking things out, undoing pipes and muttering great mutters, I did the ironing of the washing that I did earlier today! Yahee! Right up to date I am, I am! Good way to see the New Year in with.

Tonight, we will have a cold meal as we have so many leftovers – sliced cooked steaks, lamb, ham, salami, chicken, a potato mayonnaise salad, beetroot, baked beans, a fresh tossed salad, and buttered bread. We can also have slices of light fruitcake with brandied custard for our dessert.

Tomorrow, I plan to do pretty much nothing – just to enjoy the day, read, and maybe watch some TV later.

What lesson did I learn today? To always look for the positives in my day.

What am I grateful for today? That I am slowly getting the embroidery done on my little smocked dress for Zara.

My saying for today is …
